Description

Is your organization looking to move from a project based model to a product based model? In this course, not only will we discuss what that means and how does that affect roles, teams, and people, but also help you create your path with the understanding that it is not a binary transition

In this 2-day, hands on workshop you will experience how product models differ not only across organizations but also inside organizations with different teams. You will learn how to baseline your current organization model and start moving it towards a product model. You will visualize the change at various levels - team, program, portfolio as well as finance and tech.

A product model is not a destination - in this course you will learn how to continuously evolve your organization within the real constraints you currently have and measure the impact of your decisions.

You will learn:

  • What is a product, how it differes from a service, and how to set up flows to support both
  • Identifying real and imaginary constraints currently impeding your product delivery
  • How product delivery varies at the team, program, and portfolio level
  • Measuring the impact of your changes

You will use:

  • Constraint canvasing to visualize and socialize what is possible
  • Modeling to understand various team delivery approaches
  • Process control charts to guide our decisions and impacts
  • Visual indicators and value streams to understand your current bottlenecks

All exercises will be done in small groups.

About the instructor:

Joel Tosi is a hands-on technical product coach. He coaches and pairs with teams to apply XP, lean, and agile practices to drive product learning, quell the noise around environments and tech, and help teams build more impactful products. Joel's history as a builder spans roles from financial companies such as CME to open source companies like Red Hat.
