Description

Project Space: NO MAN'S LAND
Gwen Shockey

Opening: September 22, 6-8pm
Exhibition: September 24-4, 12-6pm

NO MAN’S LAND investigates shifts in language, methods of gathering and hookup culture within the queer community, specifically relating to the loss of the lesbian bar. Using materials drawn from bathrooms of the last four lesbian bars in New York City (Ginger’s, Henrietta Hudson, Cubbyhole, and Bum Bum) Shockey offers a lens through which to consider these changes. Through drawing and print material, projection, sound, performance and sculptural installation, images of this waning culture invoke the viewer to reflect upon and rediscover this era.
