FAQs

What is Project SEARCH Collaborates for Autism?

Our High School Transition Program is a one-year internship program for students with ASD whose goal is to gain skills to secure competitive employment in their local community after graduation. It is targeted for students in their last year of high school. The program takes place at NewYork-Presbyterian in White Plains, NY. Our interns are totally immersed in the workplace in order to facilitate the teaching and learning process and so that they may acquire valuable employability skills and marketable job skills. Interns participate in three internship rotations to explore a variety of career paths. The interns are part of a team that includes their family, a special education teacher from SWBOCES, and a job coach from ARC of Westchester who work together to set employment goals and to support the intern during this important transition from school to work

New York Collaborates for Autism

New York Collaborates for Autism (NYCA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2003 dedicated to addressing the needs of individuals and families who are living with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

NYCA’s purpose is to address the serious gaps in New York in the areas of education, training, clinical services, support and research and to serve as a catalyst for building capacity around ASD in the public, private and governmental sectors. We work to identify the need within the ASD community, develop partnerships with community based organizations, provide technical expertise, identify national leaders to shape innovative programs and provide seed money to launch these initiatives.

NYCA is responsible for the creation of the NYCA Charter School, Hunter College Autism Center, BOOST! after school programs, the Center for Autism and the Developing Brain (CADB), a collaboration with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and its affiliated medical schools of Columbia and Weill Cornell and our latest initiative Project SEARCH Collaborates for Autism.
