Walker's Bluff is partnering up with Southern Illinois Modern Widow's Club for their annual fundraising event "Project Red Heal!" This event will be held in The Wine Cave at Walker's Bluff on Friday, May 29th from 7-9pm. Tickets are $25 each and include live music provided by Jessica Evans, light appetizers, refreshments and a cash bar featuring a signature drink, the Mo”heal”to....a fun spin on the tasty mojito! There will also be silent auction and a prize for the Red "Heal" photo that gets the most donations!. Special Honored Guest, Modern Widows Club Founder and Development Director, Carolyn Caple Moor, will be joining us too!

What is Modern Widow's Club?

Modern Widows Club is a growth organization that is not grief centered. They are women leading and mentoring women to live their best lives after the loss of their husbands. They are women who through great loss, are leaning into life together.

What is Project Red "Heal"?

Each year, the women of Modern Widow's Club, reach out to men and women in the community to help share their support for widows of all ages and to raise money for their local chapter. Jenn Fortune, Chapter Leader, totes her Red High Heel chair across Southern Illinois and takes photos of individuals who make donations of $100 or more. She then shares them on social media and the end of the campaign fundraising event.

Project Red "Heal" features men and women of influence in our community and businesses around Southern Illinois, posing on our gaudy yet fabulous, Red High Heel Chair! A photo of each influencer will be displayed at the event with an envelope to collect money and raise funds for the Modern Widow's Club.

Project Red “Heal” was started by Jenn Fortune, Owner of J Fortune Photography, and US Air Force widow. Because of her young widow journey, finding Modern Widows Club National Organization several years ago gave her hope. She had found a safe place with women who understood the journey and she started a chapter here in Southern Illinois. They meet the second Tuesday of every month in Carterville.

Why donations are necessary:

- It takes $1000 a year for us to remain chaptered. Being chaptered gives us the leadership of a not for profit to be a

support system for the widows and fatherless children in our area and to reach out to more.

- It costs approximately $100 per meeting to provide a dinner and atmosphere of peace, which creates a safe place for our

widows to literally “just be” for a moment of time outside of “life” surrounded by ladies who understand and walk with

her on the journey.

- Outreach. We love giving back to the community. Last year we were able to make Christmas special for 2 single mothers,

1 widowed, with 5 children each.

- Training. This is so essential for our leaders as our group grows and more widows join. We want to be fully equipped and effective serving and supporting our widows and their children.

- Empowerment. We have annual Widow Empowerment Events that we would love to help our ladies attend.

- Missions Trips. We have international trips where our widows are able to culturally experience helping widows, orphans and fatherless children in other countries through our Modern Widows Club organization.
