About this event

Project Opioid Presents: A Faith Leader's Collaborative

As repeated tidal waves of the coronavirus continue to impact our communities, we are beginning to see the debris left behind on our shores. Regardless of our chosen faith, as leaders in the community, it is our calling to confront and address the issues we now face in the aftermath of these recent events.

The surging Overdose Crisis, fueled by opioids, is rivaling COVID-19 as our lifetime’s deadliest epidemic. The numbers are staggering; the biggest debris left on our shores will be the unprecedented lives lost to opioid-related overdoses. According to the CDC, more than 93,000 Americans died of an overdose in the 12 months leading up to May 2020 mid-pandemic – the highest number of overdose deaths ever recorded in a 12-month period.

For the first time in our history, more Americans will die from opioid overdoses than from car accidents. Project Opioid was established to amplify the voices of the lives that have been lost and the families who are left in its aftermath. Project Opioid is a public-private-nonprofit partnership formed to save lives through a collaborative community model bridging faith, business, and philanthropic leaders with those already on the frontlines of this crisis: our criminal justice, healthcare, schools, and emergent service providers.

We are calling all clergy, lay leaders, staff, administrators, and interested supporters from [ALL] Central Florida faith communities to join us in action!

Project Opioid is organizing hundreds of faith leaders and thousands of faith members, from every religion, in our region to address this epidemic this October, for Faith Sunday: “Remember Me... Together All Faiths Addressing the Opioid Crisis.” On this day, thousands of Central Floridians in churches, temples, synagogues, and mosques, will offer prayers, preach messages and sing songs of help, hope, and healing.

To properly prepare for this very important event, we have planned three (3) informational meetings in our region.

These gatherings will guide us to effectively communicate our message and mission on this critical issue and promises to inspire us as we prepare to be the voice we are called to be. Space is limited so RSVP today to attend one of these informational meetings - open to leaders from every faith and background. (Complimentary breakfast and/or lunch provided).
