Project Nimbus: The projection of Moving images onto Clouds from Aircraft
Art | Science Talk & Prototype Showcase
Dave Lynch and Mike Nix present over 3 years of research into the successful projection of moving images onto clouds from aircraft.
Their journey takes us from the initial inspiration of a US Military projection weapon through a series of prototypes developed through conversation and collaboration with pilots, scientists, makers, early cinema specialists, weapons experts, cultural theorists. artists, sailors and cloud appreciators.
All leading to a series of successful flights with the Laser Zoopraxiscope Mk6, a redesign of Edweard Muybridges' projection technology from 1887. This will be the first presentation of this project since it's initial success in 2015, soon to debut in New Scientist Magazine.
The talk presents the experimental prototypes, alongside the highs, lows and serendipitous nature of interdisciplinary ways of working, collaborative research and play. They hope that by sharing their process, it can serve as a model to inspire others.
Open to all.
