Event description

Description

In light of recent events it is key that staff are prepared for the eventuality of being caught up in a terrorist attack and how to spot the signs of attack planning, be that in their professional lives or their personal lives. Project Griffin is a nationally accredited course with CPD points for those who collect them and a certificate. You may have heard the recent radio adverts and news stories around the national “ACT” campaign… this is our way of meeting the needs of that campaign.

Cost:

This is a free of charge, approximately 2-3 hour course, run by the Kirklees Council Emergency Planning Team on behalf of the North East Counter Terrorism Unit. Refreshments will be provided on arrival.

Background:

PROTECT is a work strand of the wider national CONTEST national counter terrorism strategy. The aim of Project Griffin is to engage, encourage and enable members of the community to work in partnership with Police to deter, detect any counter terrorist activity and crime. More information can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/project-griffin/project-griffin

Project Griffin sessions:

These sessions focus on introducing the concept, how it works and how to participate. They are also important on a personal level. Many participants may not have spoken to a Police Officer informally before, so they offer an excellent opportunity to open channels and build networks.

Each participating city or regional police force organises and determines the content of its own sessions with the focus always on countering terrorism and crime, covering topics such as: Special branch update on current threat; vehicle/person borne improvised devices; crime scene management; hostile reconnaissance; current crime trends and methods of operation and consequence management.

Good practice is a core discipline of Project Griffin, with specialists sharing their particular expertise on these and other topics. Video, photographs and visual aids help reinforce key messages, as well as engage, motivate and maintain the interest of participants.

Benefits:

Learn how to keep yourself and others safe; provide intelligence that may prevent a situation from occurring whereby protecting your local communities. This is also a skill for your HR learning record.
