Event description

Description

Discover the hidden, booze-filled underbelly of New York City in the 1920's with the Prohibition Pub Crawl. On this three-hour, history-filled walking tour, you'll visit several pubs that once served as speakeasies during Prohibition. Hear the amazing story of determination and savvy of an immigrant gangster and rum runner in his quest to earn millions. Learn about the history of alcohol consumption in the U.S. and the role booze played in society. Learn who some of the major players were in the long simmering debate between Dry and Wet forces. Learn about the passionate Temperance movement--the first politically expressive movement of women in U.S. history and learn the role commerce played with the many beer barons and bootleggers who opposed the moral crusades of the day and became immeasurably wealthy because of it. And realize just how futile Prohibition would eventually become as crime and lawlessness increased throughout the city. And, of course, we'll have a good time drinking beer, wine and vintage craft cocktails made by top bartenders. It will be the Bee's Knees!
