Description

Progressive Asian American Christians: The Conference 2017 [Forging Our Identity]
June 16~18, 2017 | CityHope 45 Olive St, San Francisco, CA

Spurred by the article The Loneliness of the Progressive Asian American Christian, written by Liz Lin, the Facebook Group Progressive Asian American Christians, started by Lydia Suh, has become an online community where we are no longer lonely. Together, Liz and Lydia are hosting an in-person gathering of PAACs this summer! Join us for a time of meeting other PAACs, learning, sharing experiences, and advocating for issues that are pertinent to our time and context.

The conference will focus on 'Forging Our Identity' as progressive Asian American Christians. Lectures, panels, large and small group discussions will include topics like the racialized history of evangelicalism in America, LGBTQ stories and how to be an ally, feminism and feminist theology, Asian American and social justice, mental health issues in Asian American communities, and other social and political issues that face us today. We'll also have worship and plenty of time for us to connect and share our stories.

TICKETS: Early Bird Registration (before May 1) $70, Late Registration (after May 1) $85 - includes Saturday breakfast and lunch, coffee/tea, snacks, and conference materials.

LODGING AND ACCOMMODATIONS: We recommend utilizing the websites listed below to make arrangements, as well as considering accommodations near the airport and in Oakland, Berkeley, or Emeryville. Please be advised that reservations should be made soon due to limited availability. San Francisco is a tourist town!

TRANSPORTATION: Within the city, the bus system ("Muni") works pretty well and costs $2.50 per ride. To commute from the SFO or OAK airport or other nearby areas, the train system ("Bart") is best. City Hope is a 12-minute walk from the Civic Center/UN Plaza Bart stop. For taxi service, you can download the Lyft app and use the promo code "KICK" for one free first ride.

ATTIRE: San Francisco is windy and often foggy in the summer. Prepare with layers, jackets, and windbreakers. The urban setting means walking through various neighborhoods. Wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes. Backpacks or over-the-shoulder bags are smart.

Special thanks to sponsors: Newbigin House of Studies, City Hope Community Center, and City Church San Francisco.
