Event description

Description

What will be covered?

Arduino serial communications, reading analog values, perform analog to digital conversion and sending the converted values to a PC, output of analog values from the Arduino, I2C communication to measure accelerometer and gyroscopic data from multiple sensors. In this course, electronic signal measurement using the Digilent Analog Discovery shall be performed to visualize signals generated or used by the Arduino.

About the workshop:

This workshop introduces the Arduino board to electronics enthusiasts and hobbyists looking to get an insight into the world of programming microcontrollers. This is also good for robotics, sensor data acquisition and automation enthusiasts who are looking for a beginner friendly and easy programming interface for a very versatile range of microcontroller boards.

Prerequisite:

  • Intro to Arduino Class
  • Basic familiarity with electrical and electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, LEDs, breadboards, etc.

Topics for the class:

  • Introduce Arduinos, the IDE, sketch, setup and loop
  • Serial communications example
  • Serial Communications: description of the code,
  • Analog Discovery software and hardware overview, visualize/measure serial communications using analog discovery.
  • Analog Read (may be from IR/silicon photodiode/CDS photocell), Write (using PWM, to an LED to show the dimming effect based on duty cycle), measurement of both using analog discovery.

Project: I2C communication for sensor measurement using accelerometer/gyroscope boards.
