Description

Instructor: Professor Panos Ipeirotis

Saturday, November 18th, 2017, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Tisch 200

  • The Python 1 tutorial gives a brief introduction to programming using Python. It is designed for people without prior programming experience. We cover the various structures used in Python to represent data, and we examine the concepts of conditionals, loops, and functions. As our first complete application, we will write a program for detecting similar company names within a dataset.

Friday, December 1st, 2017, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, LC-25

  • The Python, Part 2 tutorial builds upon the knowledge from Part 1; we will examine how to use the Python Pandas library, a modern-day replacement for Excel, and we will also examine how to use Web APIs for a variety of tasks. We will work on an example of analyzing inspection data for NYC restaurants, analyze data about locations and causes of road accidents in NYC, and build an application that extracts entities that are mentioned in the news.

This workshop is co-sponsored by the Business Analytics Club and Stern Women in Business.
