Program Stranger Things
Sun, April 23, 2017, 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM PDT
Create a game inspired by the Christmas lights scene from Stranger Things!
Your game will be featured in the Digital NEST event, Live @ the NEST. Get creative, learn some computer science, and have fun.
Spots are reserved for all identities across the female spectrum
Priority will be given to people that sign up to ALL THREE workshops. What you do in one workshop will affect what you do in the others.
Participants will be working in pairs, so bring a friend! If you don't, don't worry, you will still be paired up with someone and make a new friend (:
Beginners are welcome!
Sunday, April 23 | 12:00-3:00pm
Workshop #1: The Big Picture, setup and Intro to C
This will be an overview of how programming works and how to set up your environment. You will also get to brainstorm how you want the game to work.
You will be using C (programming language) to tell your christmas lights what to do. Learn the basics of how to write in C with the correct syntax.
Sunday, April 30 | 12:00-3:00pm
Workshop #2: Start writing some instructions
Since your christmas lights cannot think for themselves, you will have to tell them exactly what to do. You will break down your steps and we will teach you how to say it in C.
Sometimes, you will only want the christmas lights to do something depending on certain things, like if someone asks a question. There are ways you can set this up and we’ll show you how!
Sunday, May 7th | 12:00-3:00pm
Workshop #3: Check for bugs and finish up
When you are getting user input and setting up actions based on conditions, some things can go wrong. We will explore things that can go wrong and how to fix them.
