Program Lafayette Kids Coder Workshop
Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM (MST)
Program Lafayette is a free workshop series for kids in grades 3-12 to get kids excited about using technology and creating cool things. Whether kids are just beginning, or have some experience, our workshops offer a variety of software and hardware topics, including coding with Scratch, KidsRuby, and making robot Spheros move!
Register for the workshops you wish to attend, plus lunch.
Schedule for Saturday, December 14:
- 10:00 - 10:30: Welcome
- 10:30 - 12:30: Scratch Workshop
- 12:30 - 1:30: Lunch
- 1:30 - 3:30: Robot Programming with Sphero
- An electronic or paper ticket showing proof of registration
- A water bottle
- A desire to have fun with computers!
Instructors: Shane Clements, Eliana Colunga, & Gustavo Gomez
Ages: 3-12 grades, perfect for beginners
Prerequisites: Can read, and use a mouse and keyboard
Did you ever want to make your own video game? Now you can! Using Scratch, we’re going to create our own games and modify existing ones.
Scratch (http://scratch.mit.edu/) is a programming language for everyone. make interactive stories, games, music and art. Created at M.I.T., Scratch is a easy introduction to the very young, since it requires less typing.
Robot Programming with Sphero
Instructors: Anna Fowles-Winkler & Marc Rohloff
Ages: Grades 3-12
Prerequisites: More appropriate for kids who have had some exposure to programming. If you are a beginner, we’ll pair you with someone more advanced so you’ll learn!
If you ever wanted to program a robot, here’s your chance! We’re going to have Sphero (http://www.gosphero.com) robots for student use during this exciting class. Make your robot move "by your command" using your own code. Robot races and more!
