Event description
Keep evaluating the way you've always done, and national data will keep showing the lack of impact in racial disparities it's always shown!

About this event

Learn how to identify problems in the community, track your progress on resolving those problems, and what it truly means to have a racial equity lens when working with communities of color.

During this 4-day Boot Camp, Campers will use a newly innovated and unique strategy in racial equity program evaluation design called the Progressive Outcomes Scale Logic Model approach. With registration, every participant will receive an eCopy of the practical guidebook "Racial Equity Lens Logic Model & Theory of Change (1st Edition)" which explains the approach in detail. This reading is required prior to starting Boot Camp. During the Boot Camp participants will create program evaluation instruments aligned to the 6 social determinants of racial wealth inequities using strategies as described in the book. The determinants include neighborhood & physical development, economic stability, food, education, community & social context, and healthcare. By the end of the full Boot Camp, participants will have created the following racial equity lens program evaluation instruments which they can take back to their organizations to adapt and implement:

  • Community Needs Assessment which will help to identify measurable targeted problems within their communities
  • Key Performance Indicators and data collection tools for ongoing progress monitoring
  • Framework for your own Racial Equity Lens Logic Model & Theory of Change

All participants who complete the full Boot Camp will also receive a “Racial Equity Sensitivity Program Evaluation Design Certificate” stamped by Humanistic Care®

This Boot Camp is designed for nonprofit professionals who are responsible for demonstrating real-time outcomes on how people of color are becoming better off due to their organization’s efforts amid a national pandemic.

All participants should have already read the guidebook “Racial Equity Lens Logic Model & Theory of Change” prior to attending and will be sent an eCopy within 24 hours after registering. The book is approximately 44 pages in length and can be read within 90 minutes.

The Boot Camp will be delivered personally by Quisha Brown, the co-founder of Humanistic Care®, LLC and the Author of “Racial Equity Lens Logic Model & Theory of Change” practical guidebook. Before co-founding Humanistic Care® Quisha worked with more than 50 nonprofits and over 100 schools in her roles as Detroit Promise Neighborhoods Director and Assessment & Accountability Manager for Detroit Public Schools Community District to lead their ability to:

  • Identify needs and barriers to academic success for children and families
  • Coordinate the use of programs and resources to effectively address the interrelated needs within a community
  • Monitor the ability of agencies to adequately fulfill children and family needs
  • Collect data for educational, family and community support indicators

During her work, Quisha has found a common challenge within organizations to be a lack of confidence in demonstrating measurable outcomes. In partnership with national organizations such as the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) based in Washington DC and Evaluation Associations, Quisha teaches nonprofits to become more confident in their ability to demonstrate strong outcomes that will help to move the needle for impoverished communities and move away from the development of nebulous evaluative logic models.

The Boot Camp will be conducted via zoom from 9am until 11:30 am EDT, for 4 consecutive days, Monday through Thursday. Sessions will be interactive with hands-on real-world application of lessons learned.

The instructor will additionally be conducting virtual office hours each day to address any additional questions from the day's content. This Boot Camp is limited to 20 people in order to keep interactivity high. The Boot Camp fills up fast but is currently offered once per month so you may get on the waitlist for a future month in the event this Boot Camp becomes full. Please email with questions or to be added to the waitlist if this Boot Camp is full.

You can cancel with a full refund for any reason up to 7 days prior to the event. After that, you are free to transfer your ticket to a colleague.

What past participants have said about Quisha's trainings...

"Thank you so much for offering this training! You are definitely helping to fill a knowledge gap in our field."

"I feel far more confident in creating assessments and using that data to effectively inform measurable outcomes."

"Quisha was amazing! Great content – it was expertly presented and put together to learn the content and then utilize it in real time. This was extremely helpful."

"I appreciated the presenter’s confidence & command of the info she was sharing, the training materials, clear slides, breakout groups, & the engagement exercises within the group. Also, being able to raise hands and ask questions in real time to slides. I also appreciated the well thought out breaks and the music."

"Excellent instructor. I really like how the content was organized and presented."

"Excellent content and excellent presentation and execution."

"I enjoyed the breakout sessions and questions embedded after important topics to check for understanding."

"It is usually difficult to stay engaged during online trainings, especially with how many I have been attending these days, but the interactive nature of this workshop was very helpful."

"This was a great training. It helped me reflect on how we are currently collecting data in our surveys."

"Today, I got clarity about why assumptions need to be discussed before formulating a needs assessment. I did not know that."

"I now understand the tool needed to demonstrate outcomes for our organization."

"As a newbie, I appreciated how she was able to train at multiple levels and keep the flow engaging."

"This class exceeded my expectations. Content was very well organized, and I have a clear understanding for how to develop an effective needs assessment."

"Really thought provoking and really helpful going through the exercises of actually creating the Quan/Qual questions. It really reinforced the skillset"

"This training helped me open my eyes to what it means to have a racial equity lens. I have a consultant that develops the assessment for our organization. I can appreciate this session and its focus on racial equity because what I'm realizing is that our current consultant is "exclusively" data and is fonder of quantitative. And, while that's good, it doesn't fully help asking supporting questions to understand their "why." Without that it could make it even more challenging to see it through or setup the assessment with a racial equity lens."

"Great facilitator! I loved the interactive activities incorporated into her presentation. Additionally, I appreciated the opportunity granted for interaction with my peers."

"This training exceeded my expectations. We were able to develop KPIs, KSFs, and a Logic Model, as well as look at KPIs, KSFs, Logic Models, and Theories of Change put together by others."

"Excellent content and it wrapped everything together. I have a good understanding of logic models now."

"Because of this training I will be more thoughtful in following steps for developing an effective needs assessment before jumping into developing questions – identifying assumptions, program goals, information to gather, and then developing questions."

"I am better prepared to use data collected to create more useful programs."

"The class exceeded my expectations. I am very grateful that it was offered. I think that it really helped reinforce all the learning and tied everything together."

"I feel like I can create better goals, outcomes, and the like following this training. I learned about KPIs and how to apply logic models to my own work."
