Description
Internationally acclaimed writer and philosopher Sir Professor Roger Scruton has published more than forty books in philosophy, aesthetics, and politics, as well as novels, and is widely translated. He is a prominent and often controversial voice within British intellectual and cultural life, frequently appearing on radio and television discussions and often speaking against perceived norms. Drawing on his book of the same name, Roger Scruton joins us to speak On Human Nature, presenting an original and radical defence of human uniqueness. Confronting the views of evolutionary psychologists, utilitarian moralists, and philosophical materialists such as Richard Dawkins and Daniel Dennett, he argues that human beings cannot be understood simply as biological objects.

About the organizer
The Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology is a Roman Catholic educational and research Institute, located right in the heart of Cambridge. Students at the Institute have access to academic teaching and supervision at the highest levels. This is delivered by Institute staff, and by academics and teachers across the Cambridge Theological Federation (CTF) and leads to degrees awarded by either the University of Cambridge, Durham University or Anglia Ruskin University. We offer sabbatical opportunities as well as continuing education opportunities for Catholic women in our Thursday afternoon courses - 'Life and Service in the Catholic Tradition.’ These courses are offered during Cambridge term time and topics vary throughout the year.
We set out to offer transforming experiences for women, the community and the Church through innovative research, theological education, professional pastoral practice and personal formation, assisting women to discern God’s call and preparing them for lay ministries and Christian discipleship in today’s world.
