LAUGH IT UP! Why Humor in Children’s Books is Essential, and How to Make Your Books Funnier.

Marvin Terban is a best-selling, award-winning children’s book author. Called “a master of children’s wordplay” by ALA Booklist and “Mr. English for Kids” by the Children’s Book-of-the-Month Club, he has written thirty-nine books for young readers, most of them about the English language. He is also Scholastic’s “Professor Grammar.”

For many years Marvin has taught at the same school in New York where he developed teaching games that use humor to help students understand the idiosyncrasies of the English language. Those games grew into the highly original series of funny books for children on English for which he is known. Three of his Scholastic books have sold well over one million copies each.

In 2005, the SCBWI voted Marvin their Member of the Year. For many years he has been a popular speaker at schools, colleges, and educational conferences in the United States and abroad.

Marvin lives in New York with his wife Karen. They have two children and two grandchildren. His grandchildren have a pet pig named Hendrix.
