Using Psychological Principles to Create Authentic Characters. Are you a character-driven or a plot-driven writer? The problem is, the best books are both. In this workshop, licensed clinical psychologist and writer, Jessica Bayliss, will teach you how to use psychological principles to create your most authentic characters and learn a method for letting your characters’ emotional and cognitive experiences truly drive the plot of your books. Topics will include character insight, judgement, motivation, emotion, thought, and behavior. All theories are based on decades of research. You will receive several worksheets, including the Character Map template, which not only allows for great characters, it also facilitates authors’ ability to plot out scenes that convey true emotional/personal transformation. The goal of this workshop: learn how to be both a character and a plot-driven writer.

BIO:

Jessica Bayliss is a clinical psychologist by day and a writer all the time. Author of the young adult horror novella, BROKEN CHORDS, she has been a lover thrillers and ghost tales since her days scanning VHS rental shelves—admittedly with eyes half-averted from the gory covers. She also loves to eat, cook, and exercise—in that order—and is a firm believer that coffee makes the world a better place.

Look for her upcoming release, TEN AFTER CLOSING (Sky Pony Press, spring 2018). For more information about Jessica and about PsychWRITE, her series of courses and workshops for writers, visit: www.JessicaBaylissWrites.com.
