Join Sarasota County for this required training program for Professional Mangrove Trimmers. If you are currently a PMT or are looking to become one, you must attend this training in order to register with Sarasota County to perform permitted mangrove trimming projects. Registration is $25.00 initially with a $15.00 annual re-registration fee. The goal of this new requirement is to ensure that PMTs have the resources that they need to be successful in applying the local standards and understanding of best horticultural practices. PMTs will have one year (November 1, 2016, to November 1, 2017) to take the course and pass the certification test. In the meantime, the existing FDEP standards for PMTs will remain in place. After November 1, 2017, it will be required that you register with Sarasota County Government to conduct any permitted mangrove trimming work within the unincorporated areas of Sarasota County. The Cities of Sarasota, Venice, North Port and Town of Longboat Key will continue to be subject to the FDEP 1996 Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act.
We will cover the biology and importance of mangroves, Sarasota County specific rules, local permitting process and proper trimming techniques. See the below agenda for more details.
