Enhance your skills or begin your career as a professional interpreter!
The Bureau of Labor Statistics identifies Interpretors and Translators as one of the fastest growing occupation fields in the nation with a 46% increase in new jobs through 2022.
The focus of this course is on critical concepts for interpreting in medical, legal, and community settings, based on the “Equal Footing” Training developed by instructor Saul Arteaga and Southern Wisconsin Interpreting and Translation Services (SWITS). Equal Footing enables interpreters to meet their responsibility of placing Limited English Proficient (LEP) persons on an equal footing with those who understand English.
Specific topics addressed in this course will include the fundamentals and modes of interpreting and translating, the role of the interpreter, and the Codes of Ethics proposed by the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC) and the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA).
Students who complete all course requirements will receive a certificate of completion and will be prepared to sit for the IMIA national certification exam for medical interpreters.
