Event description

Description

“Nothing works better than just improving your product.” - Joel Spolsky, Co-founder of Stack Overflow and Trello

Startups have disrupted and innovated several industries in the past few years by building & designing products that engage and delight their users. But what goes into developing these delightful products? A good product needs good UX, and good UX comes from aligning product management and design. But first, there needs to be thoughtful considerations as to what the user wants and needs.

Companies that can perfect this balance between management, design, and thoughtfulness will have an easier time acquiring and retaining users.

So as an early-stage company, how should you be thinking about your product and how can you continue to make it better? What goes into product management and design?

We're excited to discuss this and more with product managers and designers from NYC, and other topics like

  • Creating a good user experience
  • Aligning development & design
  • Setting goals and objectives
  • Taking a product from idea to market
  • Testing prototypes, designs, and more
  • Roadmapping
  • Designing a digital vs a physical product
  • And much more!

The panelists

  • Rachel Ivey is the Vice President and Creative Director at S’well, where she creates conceptual ideas for design and product development, eventually bringing these ideas in full circle so they are realized at the consumer level. Heavily influenced by art and design, her most recent creation is S’well’s Abstract Collection-- a series of bottles with hand-painted designs. Previously, she was the director of design and product development at Michael Aram, inc. and Crane & Co. where her creativity expertise was used to heavily influence design.
  • Nikita Dyer is the product lead at Atlassian, a computer software company that provides collaboration, development, and issue tracking software for teams. Before this, she was the product management lead at Trello. A graduate from Cornell and NYU’s Stern School of Business, she began her career in product management at Education First, a private international education company. Currently, Dyer is also a partner at Product co-op, where she invests in early stage startups.
  • Seth Weisfeld is the Senior Product Manager at Facebook, where he oversees roadmapping, UI, UX, and Interactive Prototyping. His most recent contribution to the Facebook community is live video sharing, which has further changed how the world communicates with each other. He has managed to combine his passion for design and technology to create digital products and marketing for some of the largest companies in the world, which include Vine, where he was the product design lead.
  • Haggai Weiser is the VP of Engineering at Alpha, an on-demand insights platform enabling teams to make data-driven decisions about users, products, and new markets. Before that, he was the CTO and fourth employee at CardCash.com, which was ranked #68 in Inc Magazine's 5000 fastest growing private companies.
  • Moderated by Jeremy Horn, an award-winning, product management veteran with 2 decades of experience leading and managing product teams. Jeremy has held various executive and advisory roles, from founder of several start-ups to driving diverse organizations in online services, consumer products, and wearables. As founder of The Product Group, he has created the largest product management meetup in the world and hosts the annual awarding of The Best Product Person.
