This training is for those interested in learning about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), Tomato Good Agricultural Practices (T-GAPs), and co-management of natural resources and food safety. The PSA Grower Training Course is one way to satisfy the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement and will help Florida tomato growers comply with state and federal regulations. If you only need your T-GAPs renewal purchase the afternoon training ticket. Note: afternoon registration does not come with a binder, AFDO certificate or lunch. However, you will receive a T-GAPs training certificate.


The trainers will spend at least seven hours of instruction time covering content contained in these eight modules for the full day training:

  • Introduction to Produce Safety
  • Worker Health, Hygiene, and Training
  • Soil Amendments
  • Wildlife, Domesticated Animals, and Land Use
  • Agricultural Water (Part I: Production Water; Part II: Postharvest Water)
  • Postharvest Handling and Sanitation
  • How to Develop a Farm Food Safety Plan
  • Comparing FSMA and T-GAPs: What You Should Know

If you are signing up for the afternoon training, plan to arrive no later than 1PM (after lunch). The T-GAPs renewal training will start with the Agricultural Water modules and cover the same material in the afternoon portion of the PSA Grower Training Course. In addition to learning about produce safety best practices, key parts of the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirements are outlined within each module.  There will be time for questions and discussion, so participants should come prepared to share their experiences and produce safety questions.


The course will provide a foundation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and co-management information, FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirements, details on how to develop a farm food safety plan, and how tomato growers can comply with both state and federal regulations. 

**Please note: You must be present for the entire course AND submit the appropriate paperwork to your trainer at the end of the course to receive your Certificate of Course Attendance.** After attending the course and submitting the paperwork, full day participants will be eligible to receive a certificate from the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) that verifies they have completed the training course. Those attending the afternoon T-GAPs renewal training will also need to complete the pre & post tests in order to receive a certificate of completion. 


**Please note:  NO substitutions, transfers, or refunds will be issued within one week of the training start date**

The fee for the full day Produce Safety Rule training is $100. No onsite registration will be available since all materials must be ordered in advance. Full day registration includes the training materials, lunch, refreshments, and a Certificate of Course Attendance issued by AFDO. Participation for the entire training and submitting appropriate paperwork is required for this certificate.

For the afternoon T-GAPs renewal training, the advanced registration fee is $50. Onsite registration (12:30-1:00 )is only available for afternoon participants for $60 (Visa card or check only). Registration includes supplemental materials, afternoon refreshments, and a Certificate of Completion.
