Process Safety Management

3 days course

Manufacturing management, from vice-presidents to plant and unit managers, as well as maintenance, process, technical, and engineering managers and supervisors, should attend. Safety professionals, safety managers, and contractor management will also find the seminar helpful.

The focus of the seminar is formation of a process safety philosophy and a set of principles. These principles result in the implementation of procedures and practices that address each of the 14 major elements (OSHA) of process safety management.

In order participants receive an effective workshop, we suggest the maximum number of participants in this workshop should not be more than 20 persons.

The purpose of this seminar is to review and discuss Process Safety Management in a way that utilizes workshops based on industrial incidents and involves active participation of all participants.

The participants develop an awareness of how to implement programs that achieve process safety excellence and comply with regulations. The necessity of management commitment and leadership is stressed, along with the acceptance of management responsibilities for:

  • Establishing policy
  • Committing resources
  • Encouraging and providing for employee involvement
  • Establishing clear accountability
  • Verifying compliance
  • Participating personally in the PSM program.
  • Each of the 14 elements of the PSM model is discussed and applied to industrial situations.

  • 14-16 February 2017
  • 16-18 May 2017
  • 15-17 August 2017
  • 14-16 November 2017

Save money: If you have several people with the same training requirement you will probably find it more cost effective to have us deliver your training locally at a venue of your choice. We are always happy to come to you - we go ANYWHERE.

Make the training specific to your company and your challenges: A major benefit of in house training is that it offers you the opportunity to have aspects of the course customized to be more specific to your company and the challenges you have. We can tailor the delivery of the event to be consistent to your own policies, processes, and systems so that your people can relate the learning points covered to the real work more readily. In addition to tailoring an existing course to meet your requirements more closely we can also develop bespoke courses. With a bespoke course, we design the course from scratch with your input. That means you can decide on duration, content, delivery modes, timings, and a host of other variables.

These 14 elements, when implemented satisfactorily, achieve process control through understanding the process safety information, hazard identification, risk analysis and assessment (consequence analysis), risk mitigation, hazard management, and emergency action. The principle involved in each of the elements is defined and its importance in PSM is established. The features of each principle are presented, and a supporting discussion outlines what must be done to implement successful programs in each element.

The 14 elements discussed in this seminar correspond to the OSHA regulations. The need for operating discipline is stressed, and examples of incidents where lack of operating discipline was a major factor in the incident are discussed. How to make a PSM program work is outlined and suggestions for organizational support are made.

Each participant receives a reference manual that is easy to use as a teaching aid. Most of the slides are duplicated in the text so that transparencies can be produced and used by managers to train staff and support personnel.

This seminar is using 70:20:10 approach (70% through practice, 20% through learning from others, 10% from formal learning)* where most of the activities during the workshop are practice and learning from others (including from facilitator). To achieve participant understanding on PSM, several industrial incident cases will be discussed.

The seminar instructor are an experience safety management implementer and consultant with long and wide range experience in Indonesia and abroad. He has experience in managing process safety and conducting process safety reviews. He is also trained in facilitating group workshop and discussion.
