Event description

Description

Mathematics problem solving tasks should be an integral part of a mathematics curriculum according to most math experts. Teaching content through rich mathematical tasks is one of the ways to build strong mathematical thinkers. We can no longer teach problem solving tasks with prescribed strategies (”Work Backwards” “Draw a Picture” “Think Logically”) and need to adjust the misguided practice of teaching “clue” words.

By the end of this cycle, participants will:

*Understand the important shift from "word problems" to "problem solving."

*Appreciate the value of rich problem solving tasks and how they support student mathematical thinking.

*Explore creative problem solving approaches to integrate into teacher practice.
