Challenges with problem solving in maths is a key indicator of a Specific Difficulty in Mathematics. Understanding whether the difficulties stem from dyscalculia, dyslexia, autism, ADHD or low working memory capacity, for example, is one step towards understanding learners’ individual needs. However, there is one tried and tested methodology of support that is successful for all learners. In this webinar, we will explore what it is about word problems that students with different profiles will find challenging. We will then explore the methodology of support and why it works for learning differences, looking at examples from early number concepts as well as year 6 SATS questions and GCSE foundation questions.
