Description


This short, five-lesson taster course is aimed at musicians, producers and song writers who have had some experience of using computer-based recording software and want to get to grips with the basics of Pro Tools. The course is designed to give the user the knowledge and confidence to start creating their own music projects within the industry standard Pro Tools 12 software system..

Through a combination of demonstration and some short practical exercises, the tutor will explain the basics of setting up and configuring a Pro Tools system and guide the students around the user interface. This will provide the foundations to understanding how to record, import and edit MIDI and Audio allowing the student to manipulate and shape their music or projects in a variety of creative ways.



Course Duration – 10 hours (5 x 2 - hour lessons)

Date: Every Wednesday evening from 03/05/17 - 31/05/17

Time: 6pm - 8pm



Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of sound theory and fundamental digital audio concepts
  • Choose a Pro Tools system that suits their requirements
  • Set up a basic Pro Tools system and connect various sound sources
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the Pro Tools user interface and menu structure
  • Create a Pro Tools session and configure the system in preparation to record audio and MIDI sound sources
  • Import a variety of media
  • Record, organise and edit audio and MIDI sound sources
  • Use the different tools and modes available to complete a wide range of editing and navigating tasks
  • Use a variety of different selecting and navigation methods to speed up workflow
  • Apply a variety of editing techniques
