Event Details

Please join us for a private, pre-event reception featuring Sun Yun Shin and Minnesota essayists from

A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota. The book is a provocative collection of essays where sixteen of Minnesota’s best writers provide a range of perspectives on what it is like to live as a person of color in Minnesota. It is the theme of the 2017 It's Time to Talk: Forums on Race™ which takes place at the Minneapolis Convention Center the following day.

The private reception on Monday evening is a VIP event for sponsors, speakers, racial justice facilitators and guests vital to the success of It's Time to Talk: Forums on Race the following day.  It's a singular chance to connect with other community members actively working to eliminate racism in the Twin Cities community.

The 2017 It's Time to Talk: Forums on Race takes place from 11:30 to 1:30 Tuesday, October 17 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  For more information about the forum contact Chau Espenson at For more information click here.

On Tuesday Shin will facilitate and guide a panel discussion regarding current concerns in our community with seven contributors from the book, including:

  • Venessa Fuentes
  • Carolyn Holbrook
  • Robert Farid Karimi
  • Sherry Quan Lee, David Mura
  • Rodrigo Sanchez-Chavarria
  • Kao Kalia Yang
