This event is for those serving college students impacted by the criminal legal system in California to plan service improvement.

About this event

Mission

The first annual Prison To University Conference ALIGN-Ed in Higher Education aims to streamline academic advancement for California students in higher education who are impacted by the criminal legal system. Fostering collaboration between practitioners and supporting students’ educational pathways will also be a focal point of this event. Breakout sessions will seek to address this mission.

Day 1 Programming (7/7/22)

9am - 10 am: American Breakfast

10 am - 10:15 am: Opening Remarks

10:15 - 10: 30 am: Performance

10: 30 am - 12 pm: Breakout Sessions 1

Transfer Pathways will consist of interactive discussions that explore best practices, gaps, and collaborative opportunities for two-year and four-year colleges on transfer services.

12 pm - 1 pm: Lunch

1 pm - 2: 30 pm: Breakout Session 2

Postgraduate Pathways will discuss the development of an employment pipeline and potential collaborative efforts between two-year and four-year universities to develop career-building workshops and discuss imposter syndrome in the workplace for emerging professionals impacted by the criminal legal system.

2 pm - 3: 30 pm: Mixer: Soft drinks and appetizers will be served

Day 2 Programming (7/8/22)

10: 30 am - 12 pm: Breakout Sessions 1

Youth Pathways will explore best practices, gaps, and collaborative opportunities for two-year and four-year colleges to develop pathways for currently and formerly incarcerated youth. Addressing services for secured-track youth will be a focal point of discussions.

12 pm - 1 pm: Lunch

1 pm - 2: 30 pm: Breakout Sessions 2

Graduate School Pathways will explore best practices, gaps, and collaborative opportunities in the graduate school pipeline and future collaboration between four-year universities to improve services.

2 pm - 3: 30 pm: Closing Session: A panel will convene to bring event ideas together and discuss the next building steps.

4 pm - 6 pm: Post-Event Dinner at Eureka! Restaurant, 4143 Campus Drive, Irvine, CA, 92612
