Holly Le Babe is the nom de plume of Los Angeles based singer songwriter Spencer Hoffman (Honyock, Gabriella Cohen), whom last year released his self-recorded E.P. “Ten Minutes With…” Ten minutes of tape saturated bedroom-psyche recorded along the west coast on a four-track and a sm-57. The self-styled connoisseur of “lipstick music” will be making his LA debut at the Zebulon.

---

Pretty pastel punk rock band Kali Kazoo started as Kali Fontecchio who began writing songs at a young age in El Segundo, California- obsessing over Dylan, Devo, and Neutral Milk Hotel. In college, her career as an artist in animation took off, causing her to put music aside. It wasn’t until she started collaborating with folk-metal band, The Manx, that she began writing and performing her own songs as a solo acoustic act. This quickly led to the release of her first full length album, Outlaw Engineer Painted Pioneer, an aggressive acoustic exploration of punchy ballads. Soon after, the intensely idiosyncratic drumming of Max Winston was added to the lineup. Now a rocking two-piece, Kali Kazoo hit the studio to record their second LP, the electrified and semi- orchestral Contrary To Popular Belief. Continuing the work of the previous album, while pulling on influences such as Talking Heads, Gang Of Four, and PJ Harvey, it evolved Kali Kazoo’s sound even further. Soon after that arrangement came a bassist, Anthony Vanchure, whose liveliness brought a new energy. Evan Sinclair has been added on drums since Max’s departure and has not missed a beat, and the lovable Mike Adams on lead guitar has also added his uniqueness to the delightful whirl of passionate rock. Beyond the musicality, the words are even more lyrical and existential than before, as if Kafka were a girl in the twenty-first century. With this renewed sense of identity, the band’s next full length album Bleed Darker & Deeper Than The Seas Of Hell produced by Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Tool, Tweak Bird) this quartet has progressed into a more slick, aggressive pop-rock sound.
