Printers Row: Jhumpa Lahiri, Oct. 8
Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM (CDT)
Jhumpa Lahiri, who won a Pulitzer Prize for “Interpreter of Maladies,” has distinguished herself as one of today’s greatest fiction writers. Lahiri’s new novel, “The Lowland” fulfills every promise of her earlier work. With epic sweep, the powerful novel, set in both India and America, powerfully explores love, idealism and passion in a fractured, contradictory world. Join Jhumpa Lahiri as she talks with the Tribune’s Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, Mary Schmich.
Tuesday, October 8, 7 p.m., Palmer House Hilton hotel, 17 E. Monroe St., Chicago.
$25 ticket, $52 ticket plus book (tickets purchased after September 8)
All books purchased in advance must be picked up on site at the event.
Jhumpa Lahiri is the author of three previous works of fiction: “Interpreter of Maladies,” “The Namesake” and, most recently, “Unaccustomed Earth.” A recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, a PEN/Hemingway Award, the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship, she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2012.
Mary Schmich is a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for the Chicago Tribune, where she also has worked as a features writer and national correspondent. Her column appears on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Mary wrote the “Brenda Starr” comic strip for 25 years before deciding to give it up to spend time learning mandolin. She plays the piano and teaches yoga. With her colleague Eric Zorn, she hosts Songs of Good Cheer, an annual holiday sing-along at the Old Town School of Folk Music. Raised in Georgia, she has lived in Arizona, California, Florida, Massachusetts and France.
