All Princeton undergraduates, graduate students, staff and faculty are invited to this free, all-day, professional development event. In addition to the programs on the agenda listed below, free professional headshot photos and individual social media profile consultations will be offered throughout the day.

Feel free to come for as many of the programs that interest you. You DO NOT need a ticket to attend. We're just asking for RSVPs so we can have an approximate headcount.

Social Media Day Program Schedule

9-9:45 a.m.: Bites & Buzz (A light breakfast will be served)

Grab a bite and a cup of coffee at this speed learning session and hear about new tips and tools that will help you and your department use social media. Experts from across campus and guests will be sharing best practices during informal, small-group discussions.

10-10:45 a.m.: Rock Your LinkedIn Profile & Tell Your Story

Cailin McDuff, a former LinkedIn insider, will teach a workshop on how you can use storytelling to create a powerful—and authentic—profile on the world's largest professional network.

11-11:45 a.m.: Lightning Talks, Round #1:

Tons of wisdom, insight and inspiration will be packed into five- to seven-minute speed presentations delivered by students, staff, faculty and alumni.

12-12:45 p.m.: Social Media and Politics - The New(s) Landscape (Lunch will be served)

Keynote talk by Tom Weber ’89, contributing editor for TIME magazine and a veteran of the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek and the Daily Beast.

1-1:45 p.m.: Connect. Organize. Make Change. Activism in a Social Age

A panel of students and faculty will discuss how they use social media to organize, raise awareness and create change. Panelists include:

2-2:45 p.m.: Hashtag to Hired

Emily Miethner, founder of FindSpark will moderate a panel of recruiters who will demystify the ways employers use social media to find and vet candidates. Panelists include:

Undergraduates and graduate students are invited to meet with recruiters to discuss full-time and internship opportunities within social media and digital media.

4-5 p.m.: Individual vs. Incorporated: Social Media for Working Tigers

People can be pretty open on social at Princeton, but what happens when you leave campus for an internship or a job? Eva Kubu, director of Career Services, and Carolynn Crabtree ‘06, co-founder of Cornerstone Reputation, will discuss how to:

  • Create and maintain your own personal/professional brand online

  • Support your employer's brand on social without losing your individual voice

  • Project the right professional image in-person and online

  • Find the fine line between sharing and oversharing

  • Understand your employer’s social media policies and/or industry standards

5-6 p.m.: Friending in Real Life

It's easy to find people to Friend and follow online, but sometimes we need a little encouragement to break outside of our social circles to meet people. Undergraduates and graduate students are invited bring someone you already know and meet some new friends at this casual, social networking event taking place in real life. This program is sponsored by the Peer Career Advisers.

The event is being hosted by the Office of Career Services in collaboration with our corporate sponsors IBM and FindSpark, and campus partners including the Office of Communications, the Office of Human Resources, the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, the Lewis Center for the Arts, the Keller Center, Princeton Writes, AdThis and other departments and student organizations.
