Event description

Welcome to The Princeton Fintech and Quant Conference!

The Princeton Fintech and Quant Conference seeks to bring together a unique cross-section of the leading experts from academia, industry, and government in a low-key intellectual environment to catalyze discussions and strengthen ties among these three communities. We will cover subjects ranging from algorithmic trading and liquidity to market impact and the flash crash.

The biggest trend right now in the Fintech space is blockchain technology. While Database and Networking technologies have evolved separately over the years, blockchain is at the intersection of these technologies and it enables systems that maintain a single version of data across a network using consensus algorithms. These consensus algorithms are based on cryptography concepts. This year's conference will feature speakers from this space as well as educational talks and workshops.

Objective: Unfortunately, academia, government, and industry operate within separate silos with industry and government often unable to keep up with each other’s developments or the remarkable advances in academia. This conference seeks to break down these barriers and spur future collaboration and research between these three communities.

We’re offering two tiers of tickets:

  • Student tickets are $120
  • Non-Student Young Alumni tickets are $300

Opportunity: Our sponsors want to meet interested students 1-on-1 at the conference to discuss employment opportunities. If you would like to participate, send us your resume and we'll forward it to them. If you want to share your resume with the companies represented at the conference, upload your resume as a single page pdf document named 'FirstName_LastName_Resume.pdf' to the following dropbox folder:

If they are interested, they'll reach out to you directly.

In addition to this year’s Spring Princeton Quant Trading Conference, we will also be hosting the Princeton-Quantopian Algorithmic Trading Workshop on Sunday, April 7th from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Quantopian Workshop - Alpha Generation and Risk Management in Algorithm Trading

In this workshop, we will cover a range of topics including a broad overview of the quant workflow, methods of generating and evaluating alpha factors from idea generation to risk management. We will take care to highlight some of the more common pitfalls in algorithmic research and trading.

All you need is a beginner’s knowledge of Python, college level math experience, and a personal laptop are required to participate. Once you’ve completed our workshop you will be able to do the following:

  • Understand the key principles of quantitative investing.

  • Perform a basic quantitative workflow, including running backtests.

  • Understand some common statistical biases that can disrupt analysis.

Quantopian is a crowd-sourced investment firm and provider of the world's first browser-based algorithmic trading platform. The material presented has already been vetted and used by professors at top tier schools such as Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, and MIT. There will be numerous hands-on exercises using real financial data and all the concepts will be presented with take-home code to perform every analysis. Quantopian also offers a series of free online lectures you can use to follow up after the workshop and build your knowledge.

Similar workshops in the financial industry cost upwards of $800, however registered participants of the 2016 Princeton Quant Trading Conference will receive admission at the following subsidized prices:

  • Student tickets are $95

  • Non-student tickets are $499

  • Industry tickets are $899

The number of participants limited to 50. Note that the workshop is only open to conference participants.
