Event Details

Registration is now open for the second annual PrimalCon, our 3-day (April 15-17, 2011) health and fitness retreat held at a beautiful seaside Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach resort in Southern California. PrimalCon is a total immersion weekend experience of expert-guided workouts, play, leisure, classroom education, camaraderie, and of course the extraordinary Primal feasts. PrimalCon welcomes participants of all fitness and experience levels with leveled exercise groups and strict efforts to ensure appropriate self-pacing all weekend. The conference fee is $695, which includes all meals and a lavish goodie bag of apparel and other Primal gear. You'll book accommodations directly with hotel ($159-$225/night). To ensure an intimate experience and direct engagement (on and off the record!) with Mark Sisson and our other presenters, slots are limited to the first 100 registrants.

Take a moment to view a few clips from PrimalCon 2010:

What to Expect at PrimalCon 2011

* Seminars will include Mark's keynote address on Friday, and various topics from our presenters in their areas of expertise.
* Workouts will take place right on the sand or the expansive grass fields of Oxnard Beach Park. Experts in Primal Blueprint Fitness will guide you in small groups segmented by ability, and designed to invigorate you without risking overstress or injury.
* We'll have all kinds of fun, games, and relaxation, including leisurely hiking on the beach and sand dune preserve, Ultimate Frisbee matches (of course, no good conference should be without), the top secret Gorilla Ninja Training (Sat) and Primal Mind/Body Obstacle Course Challenge (Sun)...don't even ask, just show up ready for a challenge!
* Hard-core Primal enthusiasts are welcome; we’ll have some lively fitness competitions to test you against worthy competition. However, as aligned with the principles of the Primal Blueprint, this conference is for absolutely everyone. Even if you are relatively unfit or unfamiliar with the Primal Blueprint, this weekend can kick-start a brand new way of life! We’ll group you with those of similar ability for fitness activities, and watch carefully to ensure that you don’t overdo it. You can also feel free to pick and choose your agenda participation at any time. After all, the beach and poolside cabanas beckon all weekend!
* We'll have lavish Primal feasts – a custom-order omelet bar every morning, a Primal snack bar to keep you cranking through the day (without disturbing your insulin levels of course!), and then truly legendary dinners. After a busy day, you’ll take a short stroll over from the resort to our heated picnic area at the beach park. Follow the aroma to the on-site Bar-B-Que! You'll hit the ridiculously colorful and enticing buffet till your heart’s content, and then linger for social time as the sun sets and the fog drifts in to mark the end of the day.
* Oh, let’s not forget the fully Primal "positive natural stressor"? - the now world-famous Primal ocean plunge. We're upping the ante in 2011 - the ocean plunge will happen at night - illuminated by powerful spotlights! Don't worry though Don't worry though, you can get from the water's edge to the Embassy Suites jacuzzi in about 41 seconds (might even count as a sprint workout)!

Guest Speakers/Instructors

Angelo dela CruzAngelo dela Cruz: Angelo won well-deserved “MVP” honors at PrimalCon 2010 with his morning Vitamove sessions (an energizing/focusing mix of tai chi and stretching). He is a high-energy master healer and athlete who went from dawn till late at night spreading positive energy to PrimalCon guests. Angelo will be taking things to the next level in 2011 with his “Angelo Experience”:  breakdancing, parkour/freerunning, gymnastics, and martial arts — a non-traditional strength and agility workout that explores and stimulates functional capacity in a fun way. Designed as a team relay race! To get a sense of Angelo, check out his ninja warrior audition tape!

Esther GokhaleEsther Gokhale: Buoyed by the popularity of Maya White’s posture and movement mechanics presentation at PrimalCon 2010, we’ve secured the presence of the one of the world’s leading experts in posture, movement mechanics and spinal health, Esther Gokhale. Esther is Maya’s mother and operates the renowned Gokhale clinic in Palo Alto, CA. She is the author of the best-selling “8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back“. By day, she will lecture on posture and movement, and by night she will give the “Gokhale Method” a spicy twist by presenting a clinic on Samba dancing (she claims Samba is the best way to learn and implement the posture and movement technique principles!).

Rachel Albert

Chef Rachel Albert: While the PrimalCon 2010 food was extraordinary, many guests wanted more…not more food mind you, but more information about how to make healthy, delicious meals in their busy daily lives! Enter Chef Rachel, a dynamo of enthusiasm and expertise from Phoenix, AZ who has been making quite an impact on the Primal/paleo cooking world. Chef Rachel will present a cooking demo at PrimalCon. She will introduce you to special cooking techniques, and will show you how to make dazzling, eye-catching arrangements that entice everyone – Primal or not – to dig in. You will also discover the secret for making a delicious, low-impact chocolate dessert that will wow your family and friends.

Billy Vives

Billy Vives will present his unique and super-creative kettlebell workout throughout the weekend. Billy’s kettlebell training honors two key principles: attention to quality of movement and keeping it fun! “Quality of Movement” means fine-tuning the training to ensure that all trainees are learning and maintaining good posture, which is the foundation of efficient movement. He stresses injury prevention and patience (“First move better, then get stronger”). Billy teaches kettlebell training from the “ground up”, allowing trainees to work on understanding how it feels for their body to move right. The trainees flow through the complementary aspects of stability, endurance and dynamic power, while learning how even a relatively light weight (18lbs) can be an easy warm-up – or a challenging test of strength and coordination. Billy’s session caters to all levels – from beginners who have never held a bell to hard-core enthusiasts looking for innovative new ideas.

Barefoot Ted

Barefoot Ted is back by popular demand for PrimalCon 2011! Who can forget Ted floating along the Oxnard Beach Park cement path with strides as light as a deer, undaunted by strange looks from passer-by’s and inspired 24/7 by his mission to ”re-discover primal human capacities and encouraging others to do the same.” Ted is an independent athlete committed to re-discovering primal natural human capacities and encouraging others to do the same. He has been featured in numerous articles focused on the benefits of barefoot running. He also has played a major role in popularizing minimalist footwear including Vibram FiveFingers and huarache sandals.

Atlatl Bob

Atlatl Bob: Down from the hinterlands of Montana is the world’s foremost expert on the atlatl, the paleolithic weapon that Bob himself claims is the most profound evolutionary advancement in the history of the human race.

Bob will have authentic, handcrafted atlatls at PrimalCon for hands-on instruction and demonstration.
