Pride in Practice - LGBT Community Voice

An interactive opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people to get together and discuss the importance of primary care services across Greater Manchester, how these services currently meet LGBT patient’s needs and how we can help improve services for our communities.
Among the issues we will be looking at are:
• How does your GP treat its LGBT patients?
• Why is it important that my dentist knows my sexual orientation/trans status?
• What can Optometrists tell us about our wider health?
• How can we get the most from our Pharmacy services?
11.00: Welcome & Introductions
11.30: What do we want from Greater Manchester’s Primary Care Services?
12.00: Why do we need to discuss LGBT identity with GPs, dentists, pharmacists, optometrist?
1.15: Sharing our experiences of good/bad primary care services
2.00: What can we do to help improve our relationship with our GP, dentist, pharmacist, optometrist?
Throughout the day there will be opportunities for you to have your say on your experiences of primary care services and you will also be encouraged to share your thoughts on good practice or areas of improvement for health professionals working with LGBT people by sharing case studies. Attendees will also be given the opportunity to contribute to a new short information film that will be circulated to primary care providers across Greater Manchester about LGBT people’s experiences and expectations of primary care services.
