Pride and Prejudice: Looking Back and Forward w/ Dr. Vivienne Ming
Event Information
Description
StartOut invites you to join us for a fireside chat with Dr. Vivienne Ming, Chair of the Board for StartOut and Co-founder of Socos Labs
Dr. Vivienne Ming, Co-founder of Socos Labs and Chair of the Board of StartOut, is one of the world’s leading experts in A.I. In 2016 Dr. Ming, in collaboration with StartOut, conducted research that revealed how different states nurtured or rejected their LGBT entrepreneurs. The report, The State of LGBT Entrepreneurship in the U.S., concluded that over 1 million jobs migrated from regions that are hostile to LGBT founders to areas with more welcoming policies for the LGBT community.
Join us for an intimate discussion as Dr. Ming shares more about her new A.I.-driven project to create the StartOut Pride Economic Impact Index. The index and it’s website will dynamically track the impact of LGBT entrepreneurs in every metro region in the US in terms of startups, jobs, IP, media impact, and more. Eventually, it will even measure how the different policies and programs of each region drive or suppress the creative potential of its queer businesses. Having founded five companies herself post-transition, Dr. Ming is building this tool with StartOut to help politicians and media see and foster the amazing contributions of those who are different.
We invite you to begin Boston Pride with, Dr. Ming, StartOut and Workable, to learn more about this research and why it is so vital to our communities future.
