Prevention of Bullying For Adolescents with ASD

Participants will demonstrate an understanding of the prevalence of bullying and victimization among adolescents with autism, the types of bullying that occur, and strategies for preventing and managing bullying situations.

Participants will be able to:

1. Identify the prevalence of bullying and victimization among adolescents with autism.

2. Recognize types of bullying that affect adolescents.

3. Develop strategies for preventing, identifying, and managing bullying.

About the Presenter

Jacqueline Wood received a Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood and Special Education from SUNY Geneseo. She received a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. For over a decade, Jacqueline taught students with autism and related disabilities at the elementary and high school levels. She also served as a Registered Behavior Technician. As a clinical support specialist at the Florida Atlantic University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (FAU CARD), Jacqueline provides consultation and support to adolescents and adults with autism, their families, and community members that serve them. She has a special interest in advancing safety measures for individuals with autism in home, school, and community settings. She provides training for law enforcement to promote safe interactions for individuals with autism. Jacqueline is also a doctoral student in the FAU Exceptional Student Education department. Her research focuses on improving safety measures and promoting social and community access for individuals with developmental disabilities throughout their lives.
