Event Details

Barbara Barbier is a college professor teaching in a predominantly white university department. Her white colleagues treat her as though she does not belong in the department due to her perceived intellectual shortcomings. Paul is Barbara's boyfriend. He is also a college professor, successful, well liked, and a respected and accomplished scholar. He believes Barbara’s intellectual struggles are less important than the love they feel for each other, he thinks love can save the relationship, but Barbara wants only to be respected and accepted by her white colleagues. Presumed Incompetent engages the Du Boisian “double consciousness” theory with full force intensity and fearless honesty. Is it real? Intelligence…. Is it genetic? Is it environmental?
