President's Challenge 2013 Kickoff Event
Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (EDT)
Come join us to kick off the second President’s Challenge! Professor David Edwards of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences will be speaking on the promise of social entrepreneurship, we’ll be serving food, and students from across the University will be here to share ideas, find teams, and generally mix it up.
The President’s Challenge is an initiative to develop entrepreneurial solutions to the world’s most important social problems. Sponsored by President Drew Faust, the challenge will give students access to expertise in the form of mentors and experience in the process of bringing great ideas to action.
Teams have been asked to present novel solutions that attack the issues in learning, energy and environment, health, disaster prevention and relief, and the arts today. This event will be the first in a series hosted by the i-lab; here, ideate and meet other Harvard students interested in making impact in the world; at others, learn how to write proposals and develop your idea--more info on the programming will be shared by Gordon Jones, Managing Director of the i-lab.
The i-lab will play an active role as host to the teams as they develop and refine their ideas, assisting students by hosting workshops, providing guidance, and giving them access to our resources and facility throughout the Challenge.
Note: The i-lab provides transportation services between the i-lab and the Harvard Square and Longwood campuses (trackable via the Shuttle Tracker system) to ensure easy access for undergraduate and graduate students. MBTA bus and subway service also provides access to the facility, and the use of Zipcars and bikes will be encouraged to help contribute to the sustainability of the environment.
Metered parking is available for $1.25 per hour in the i-lab parking lot (entrance on Western Ave to the west of the i-lab) and by the day in the Harvard Business School parking lot. Free parking is also available on Western Ave.
