Event description
Preservation specialist John Fidler will give us a sneak peek of restoration work under way at First Congregational Church

About this Event

First Congregational Church in downtown Long Beach has served the greater Long Beach community for more than 100 years. It is the oldest standing church structure in the city and one of the city's oldest congregations. The terra cotta and brick building with distinctive stained glass and leaded windows was intended to stand "as a tower of faith in the heart of the city". It has served its purpose well throughout the decades since those words were spoken at the 1914 dedication.

Technical preservation specialist and architect John Fidler, will present an update on the $2 million restoration currently underway to restore the building after a century of ocean air and Los Angeles pollution has taken its toll on the lead in the windows, the beautiful and unique brickwork, and the decorative terra cotta.

We invite Long Beach Heritage members, the First Congregational Church congregation, and community to this special event.
