Event description
Overcome public speaking obstacles to effectively communicate with an artist's audience.

About this Event

Whether it be shyness, nervousness, or not being prepared for the attention of an audience, public speaking is not easy for many artists. However, measures can be taken and obstacles overcome to make the most of your public appearances.

Public speaking opportunities that artists are often offered include

  • Sharing experiences on an artist panel
  • Giving an artist talk about your work in a show
  • Teaching an artist workshop
  • Publicly accepting an award for an achievement
  • Presenting to students or others who will be inspired by your story
  • Talking about your work with collectors, gallerists, media, publishers and anyone who may be an influence to further your career.

Guest speaker, Donnie Hill of Eloquence, an interpersonal communication training studio in San Francisco, will offer tools specific to artists to make public speaking a more comfortable experience. Learn both verbal and nonverbal communication to develop listening and speaking skills. Hear tips to create a strong impression by speaking clearly and keeping on point with your message. Increase your overall confidence with public speaking and learn how to deliver under pressure and manage stress symptoms.

About the Presenter: Donnie Hill is a presentation skills coach and sales trainer. He has built his training and development career across industries including the arts, healthcare, computer networking, and corporate education. Because of his work as a professional stage actor, executive coach, and corporate sales trainer, Donnie provides businesses that he works with the tools and techniques they need to accurately, authentically, and persuasively represent themselves and their work.

About ArtSpan Artist Workshops: ArtSpan presents monthly 90-minute workshops designed to sharpen business and financial literacy for professional artists, prepare artists for exhibiting work inside and outside the studio, and encourage community between fellow artists and the public.
