Prepping for Safari with Graham Hobart
Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM (PDT)
Los Angeles, CA
A lot of Samy's customers go on Safari each year starting in June. To help you prep for your photo adventure, wildlife photographer Grahm Hobart will go over everything you need to know to get the most out of your trip including:
- Equipment choices - Bodies lenses and support systems
- Storage - Memory cards and back up systems
- Voltage and charging issues
- Portability issues - Air travel, hiking, camera bags
- Risk - theft, weather, dust, vibration, accidents
- Editing and Backup on the go
- How to practice photo skills before you go
In addition to the technical aspects, Graham will discuss how to develop your visual style. His unique vision has helped garner him attention from fine art collectors as well as National Geographic and Nikon. He will share advice for presenting your work once you get back and for submitting to competitions.
Whether you are going on Safari or just interested in shooting wildlife this seminar will get started.
Graham Hobart was born and raised in what is now Zimbabwe. He is famous for the unique illustrative style of photography he has titled "In a Different Light". His work has been featured by National Geographic and Nikon USA.
As a young man, he would often travel by bicycle to remote parts of Africa and encounter a wide variety of wildlife very close-up. He would be gone for weeks at a time exploring as far as his legs, and determination, would take him. Before he was photographing the wildlife he was drawing and sculpting them.
“One time I rode my bicycle up to the main gate of Hwange National Park”, Graham recalls, “where wide-eyed park rangers explained that I was not permitted to enter the park by bicycle......because I might be eaten!”
Graham Hobart draws on more than twenty five years of experience as a professional photographer. He learned his craft on large format film cameras long before the days of digital photography. More recently he has turned his attention to the superb qualities of Infrared Photography which has challenges that few photographers dare to master because of difficulties with focusing….especially with super-telephoto lenses.
"I have been very fortunate to have been able to spend my adult life capturing the most amazing places, people and things. Being a professional photographer has been my passport to worlds I could never have experienced otherwise."
