About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours
  • Ages 18+
  • No venue parking

This antenatal course is not about birth or growing a baby. Pregnancy and birth happen. It might feel like it is never going to end (transition is tough!) but it actually doesn't last long. Not when compared to the 18+ years of parenthood that you have ahead of you. Not compared to the first night of non-stop crying. Not compared to the big tantrums that lay ahead. Not compared to sleepless nights when they are about to start nursery, school, or big school.

This course is for expecting parents who want to know how to prepare to raise a child.

We do not teach:

  • anything to do with birth
  • physical care of a baby
  • anything to do with sleep / feeding

Why? You can get all that info for free and, honestly, you don't get as much say in birth as you might think. It happens how it happens! But prepping for parenthood is not actually 'natural' or 'easy' and the information is harder to come by, or absorb, especially once your baby is born.

You will learn:

  • How to prepare yourself for the stress of parenting (crying!)
  • How to regulate your own feelings (and your baby's)
  • How to connect
  • AND how to grow their brain and what you SHOULD be doing to prepare them for education.

You read that right: preparing for education. It starts at birth. Who knew?! (we did and you will soon!)

It is run by Lizzy, founder of EPIC, which stands for Every Parent's Impact Counts. Lizzy is a parent, a teacher, and early reading trainer. She is also the creator of the lovely EPIC Parent app where you can access this course for free after the event.

Why book?

  • Costs less than other antenatal courses, but gives you skills that last a lifetime, rather than a few hours during birth.
  • Price is per couple. Your plus one can be whoever is on the journey with you: your bestie, mum, MIL, FIL, partner, baby daddy, baby mama, whoever (as long as they are over 18).
  • You get access to the course for free on the EPIC Parent app after the event.
  • Meet other like minded parents
  • The venue is lush
  • We provide some light nibbles / refreshments
  • We are quirky and not boring.

Bring:

  • a mug (each if bringing a partner)
  • anything you need to feel comfy (a cushion for instance)
  • lunch (we will have snacks but if you are going to need a proper lunch before we finish at 13:00 then bring some extra food for yourself so you are not hungry)

Frequently asked questions

Where do I park?

There are a number of parking options locally. Please be aware that parking restrictions apply to local roads. Car parks such as the BeeHive in Loughborough provide reasonable priced parking and are only a short walk to the venue.

Is it an antenatal course?

We are different to a traditional antenatal course, but designed for pre-birth. We do not focus on birth, physical care or anything medical. We do focus on surviving early parenthood, growing your baby's brain, what you should actually be doing to help your baby hit mile stones and behaviours.

Is it run by a midwife?

This is not about the physical or medical side of pregnancy and birth, so this is not run by a midwife. This course is run by an experienced educator because the course content (speech, language, communications, emotional literacy, self regulation, connection and learning) are their specialism.

I have had a baby recently. Can I come along?

Yes! This is aimed at expecting parents, but if you have just had a baby and you feel that this is what you need then go for it. Please reach out and let me know before hand. You will also need to organise some childcare as this event is not accessible for infants or children.

I'm a single dad / single mum / I'm adopting . Can I come?

Sure! All types of parents in all situations are welcome. This course is for anyone who is expecting to be in the role of parent whether that's alone / together / adopting / fostering: It doesn't matter to us. If you want to learn, we want you there. But remember: it's an adult only event.

I have a baby already. Can I take breaks to feed my baby / pump?

Yes, nip out any time to take care of yourself and your little one(s), but the course delivery space is designed as adult only, so talk to me before hand about what you need and how we can make this work for you.
