Event description

The best way to choose a pediatrician is to schedule a free prenatal consultation. During this 30-minute in-person meeting, you’ll be able to sit down with Dr. Messinger to discuss her philosophies on parenting methods, baby's first days, breastfeeding, antibiotics, immunizations, office protocol, emergencies, communication, and anything else that comes to mind.

Meridith Messinger, MD is a board-certified pediatrician at Mount Sinai Doctors, seeing patients Monday through Saturday in Brooklyn Heights. Trained in Washington, DC and New York, she is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. She was awarded her medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed her residency in Pediatrics at Children's National Medical Center. Prior to joining Mount Sinai Doctors, she served as the director of undergraduate medical education and the associate residency program director for the SUNY Downstate Department of Pediatrics at Long Island College Hospital. Dr. Messinger was also the founder and first medical director of Reach Out and Read, a national project designed to promote early childhood literacy through routine doctor’s office visits. She has a particular interest in breastfeeding, child development, international adoption, and common behavioral problems. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Lawrence Wolf, MD, and their three children.

1. Are you board-certified?

Yes, American Board of Pediatrics

2. What is your childcare philosophy?

I believe in an academic, "evidence-based" approach to pediatrics that has practical applications for the child and their family. There is no point in recommending something that is not realistically going to work. There are often several different reasonable approaches to a given problem and I am open to finding one that the parents and I all believe is safe, able to be followed through on, and likely to yield results.

3. How long have you been in practice?

19 years

4. Do you have children?

I have three children

5. Do you have any specialized training?

I am board certified in General Pediatrics. I have a strong interest in development pediatrics and I have done some additional training in Pediatric mental health.

The pediatrics department consists of three additional full-time general pediatricians, a pediatric gastroenterologist, a pediatric orthopedist, an adolescent medicine specialist, an allergist, who sees pediatrics, and a dermatologist, who see pediatrics. All physicians are conveniently located in the same building, so we’re able to easily share medical records and collaborate on care.

8. What are the office hours?

8:30-6 Mon - Th, 8:30-5 Friday, 9-12 Sat (for sick or newborns only)
