About this event

League Atmosphere

Our goal is to provide the best volleyball atmosphere possible, by making all of our leagues and events predictable in their quality and value. We base our pricing on four main factors: permit costs, staffing costs, the length of the season, and weekly team gameplay time. At each of our leagues, you can expect to see coordinators running each event, referees at all Competitive and Intermediate matches, scoring and statistics maintained and available, plus a great music playlist to soundtrack your best volleyball moves as you play against similarly-skilled teams. We craft a highly structured environment so expectations are clear to all those involved.

Season Schedule

Week 1: Player Draft / Casual Gameplay (Captains from Teams needing additional players to complete their roster are encouraged to attend to scout and acquire players who have registered as individuals)

Weeks 2-6: Session 1 Round Robin Gameplay

Weeks 7-11: Session 2 Round Robin Gameplay (Teams top/bottom in their tier during Session 1 move up/down a tier, if there is one)

Weeks 12-16: Session 3 Round Robin Gameplay (Teams top/bottom in their tier during Session 2 move up/down a tier, if there is one)

Weeks 17-21: Session 4 Round Robin Gameplay (Teams top/bottom in their tier during Session 3 move up/down a tier, if there is one)

Weeks 22-26: Session 5 Round Robin Gameplay (Teams top/bottom in their tier during Session 4 move up/down a tier, if there is one)

Weeks 27-30: Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, and Finals. Players must have played a minimum of 60% of the season in order to play in the Quarter/Semi/Finals Gameplay.

1. This season schedule skips over weeks that we do not have facility permits (holidays, school events, etc).

2. If we are unable to complete the 30-week season within the original scheduled time, we may elect to extend the season (facilities permitting) to complete the 30-week schedule.

3. If 3 or more weeks of gameplay are missed and cannot be made up at the end of the season, we will automatically provide a 100% credit for those missed weeks toward future registrations, or on a case-by-case basis, a 90% refund for those missed weeks to those teams which request it.

Team Rosters

1. Teams must have a minimum of 6 players registered on their roster in order to play in this league, of which 2 registered players MUST be female. Teams are encouraged to register the full 8 slots on their roster to accommodate for occasional player absences throughout the year. The team registration price remains the same for 6-, 7-, and 8-player teams. Teams are encouraged to register at least 3 females on their roster to prevent player capping.

2. Teams playing in competitive tier(s) must play a minimum of two females on the court at all times, or play four/five with one female and two/one ghost player(s), or default if they cannot play at least four registered players.

3. Teams playing in intermediate tier(s) must play a minimum of two females on the court at all times, or play four/five with one female (no ghost rules), or default if they cannot play at least four registered players.

4. Teams playing in recreational tier(s) must play a minimum of two females on the court at all times, or play four/five (no female requirement for less than 6 players), or default if they cannot play at least four registered players.

NEW: Care has been given in crafting this schedule to ensure that teams can now play a full 80 minutes of gameplay each week, while ensuring that no team sits off for two consecutive matches. Teams who are sitting off for their next match are permitted as spectators within the facility. Thank you to everyone who continues to provide the league with feedback on our offerings. This change is thanks to you!

1. Excluding any scheduling/permit issues, tiers will always play at the same time and at the same location throughout the season. Teams should be prepared to switch times and locations should they be moved up or down a tier.

2. Teams in the Recreational Tiers can request to remain in Recreational Tiers instead of moving up if it means moving into an Intermediate-level Tier. In such cases, the 2nd ranked team will be offered the opportunity to move up a tier, and if they also decline, then the bottom-ranked team from the higher tier will remain in that tier.

Default Rules

1. Due to the timed-nature of our match schedule, all matches will have default rules in effect.

2. A team defaults a single point every minute they cannot field the minimum required number of players (See TEAM ROSTER Section).

3. After 20 minutes have passed, a team that has not fielded the required number of players defaults their entire first set and the same point-per-minute count begins on the second set.

Game Format

1. Each match will consist of two (2) sets played to 21 points, where a team must win by two points, and with matches capped at 25 point.

2. 40 minutes will be allocated to each match period, and if the second set is still being played at the 40-minute mark, gameplay will end at the score reached at that time.

3. If 10 or more minutes remain in a match period (normally 40 minutes long) teams may optionally agree to play a third set to 15 points or until time runs out.

4. All Competitive and Intermediate matches are officiated by OVA-certified referees.

League Swag

1. All registered participants will receive a complementary league tee-shirt as part of their registration, to be provided some time between the start and end dates of the league.

2. Teams can request that their complementary league tee-shirt be a specific colour (subject to availability), and customize it with any of the following (in addition to league branding and sponsorship, and subject to size limitations and staff approval): team name, team logo, team slogan, player name, player number. When teams request custom league tee-shirts and the cost exceeds our budgeted expense for tee-shirts, teams may be asked to contribute a small surcharge for customizations requested.

3. Teams that win 1st Place in their Division at the end of the year also receive exclusive winners-only tee-shirts they can proudly wear to brag about their volleyball skills! Other winners-exclusive merchandise may also be announced later in the year.
