Event description

Description

Challenge of Tarrant County is pleased to present Dr. Melissa Lewis and Dr. Dana Litt, two UNT Health Science Center public health researchers who plan to get inside the minds of teens and young adults to learn what influences them to drink, and when they are most apt to use alcohol, through a new $2.6 million, five-year study funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Lewis and Dr. Litt, through their research, plan to assess the best timing for alcohol interventions by understanding what matters to teens and young adults and how their day-to-day thinking fluctuates depending on the time, influences and what is happening throughout their day. The researchers hope to better understand the motivators and influences to develop prevention and intervention recommendations for reaching young adults when they are most apt to make risky drinking decisions.

Dr. Lewis is nationally recognized for her research on risky sexual behavior and alcohol use among young adults. Her research has been funded by grants from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute, and the Alcoholic Beverage Medical Research Foundation. She has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications, many of which appear in top-tier addictions journals.

Dr. Litt has been funded through NIAAA for studies on alcohol use among young adults, social media impact on drinking norms among adolescents, alcohol-related risk interventions and ways to motivate campus change. She has authored 26 peer-reviewed journal articles and four book chapters on health behaviors, alcohol, sexual risk-taking, and adolescent marijuana use and abuse.

Seating is extremely limited for this event, so secure your space today!! Registration/Networking opens at 8:30 along with a light continental breakfast and coffee courtesy of Starlite Recovery Center. Training begins at 9 AM.
