The Death of a Lie - The Play is an emotional, heart pounding, soul stirring theatrical performance comprised of works from Philllita's book The Death of a Lie. The Death a Lie is a poetic journey from foster care and abandonment to becoming unapologetic in her strength and self confidence.
The Death of a Lie, the book is a poetic diary which exposes the lies women tell themselves in search of happiness. In her debut title, Phillitia Charlton boldly expresses her experiences with love, pain, heartache and worthiness. From childhood to college, her words take you through her journey to discover and embrace self-love. This college memoir diary shares the important message: making mistakes does not make you a mistake.
About the Artist: Phillitia Charlton believes in hope and the power of resilience. She uses her storytelling and poetry to share her story and inspire others. While only 2% of foster care children earn a bachelor’s degree, Phillitia exceeded the odds by completing and excelling in multiple graduate-level programs. Phillitia has been recognized as a National Urban School of Excellence Leader and a rising star. She is a passionate author, life coach, artist, and educator. Phillitia’s faith and fundamental approach to embracing her past are the tools she uses to empower others. Her book, The Death of a Lie, is a poetic diary which exposes the lies women tell themselves in search of happiness.
Phillitia was one of the artists selected to receive grants through the 2018-19 Artist Opportunity Grant program! This project was made possible in part by Montgomery County Artist Opportunity Grant from the Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District.
