Description

Glenn Taylor

Presented by Glenn Taylor in Collaboration with WP PUPPET THEATRE

Mastery and liberated expression, in most art disciplines, stems from the acquisition of a skills base. From Brisbane, Australia, Glenn Taylor brings many years of experience and research into The Suzuki Method of Actor Training and The Nobbs Suzuki Praxis which is an exciting performative method of voice-body training.

Session 1 is an introduction to 7 key principles of performance through a range of exercises inspired by theatre director Tadashi Suzuki and theatre trainer John Nobbs. Participants will work intensively in an ensemble atmosphere in large and small groups through structured voice and movement sequences which illustrate the importance of physical, vocal and spatial knowledge. Excellent workshop for theatre artists, teachers, and performers.

***** Session 1 is a requisite for Pre-Expressive Performance Training: Session 2 (Aug 24) *****

Bring:

Water bottle
Comfortable clothing suitable for movement work.
Comfy socks (with a little cushion preferably)

Optional:
Bring a stuffy, preferably of the “bear” variety
If you have a hardwood broom stick bring that

FYI

The training is not:

  • a scaled test of physical dance facility
  • discriminatory
  • a psychological acting method

The training work deepens the actor/performers sensibilities in this stage of development in the following ways:

  • connecting the body with objects in the space
  • grounding the body - connecting with the floor
  • developing a 360-degree awareness of the space
  • bringing together the voice and body as singular physical phenomenon
  • enhancing intuition around ensemble work
  • feeding the engine of spontaneity

At a very basic level:

  • knowing what the body is doing
  • knowing left from right
  • knowing the length of movement in relation to an external time frame
  • coordination
  • confidence
  • invoking the subconscious/intuition in rehearsal and performance
