Hamilton County is in the process of updating the hazard mitigation plan, and we need input from community leaders, like yourself. This high-level project update will require one day to gather the needed information. Hamilton County Emergency Management in collaboration with the State of Indiana highly encourages participation from responders, community officials, schools, and critical infrastructure partners, other stakeholders. Your participation as subject matter experts in this process is imperative to the success of the program, listed below are just a few of the critical areas impacted by your participation:

  1. Responder and citizen life safety

  2. County and community safety and resiliency

  3. Citizen and business recovery

  4. Countywide economic recovery

  5. Insurance ratings

  6. Responder and school grants

  7. Disaster declaration funding

Morning Session: 9:00 – 11:30 AM
Working Lunch: 11:30 – 12:00 PM
Afternoon Session: 12:00 – 2:30 PM

Morning Session: Participants will assist in ranking the hazards studied (Dam Failure; Drought; Earthquake; Extreme Temperature; Fire; Flood; Ground Failure; HazMat; Hail/Thunder/Windstorm; Tornado; and Winter Storm) based on their experience. We will discuss the probability of occurrence, the magnitude of damage, warning time, and event duration to develop an overall ranking system. To do this, we will review previous events and damage reports as well as using our “what if” scenario to assess potential damages.

Afternoon Session: Participants will review a list of proposed mitigation measures from the previous plan as well as those we have gathered from other efforts that may apply to Hamilton County and the communities within. Attendees will review the measures and prioritize them as High, Moderate, or Low (based on how quickly they can be implemented, cost-effectiveness, etc.). This outlines the five-year plan for the municipalities, agencies, and offices to reduce the impact of hazards on the day-to-day operations of the county.

Please be certain to send a representative from your agency. Participation in this planning effort is required for Hamilton County to remain eligible for FEMA funding following a disaster incident.

Please call or email me if you have any questions.
