Pre Concert Talk: Letters to Our Children, Voices for LGBTQ+ Youth
Event Information
About this event
Join Coro Allegro, Boston's LGBTQ+ and allied classical chorus, and guests for a virtual "Pre Concert Talk: Letters to Our Children: Voices for LGBTQ+ Youth."
In a year in which more than 300 state bills have been filed aiming to erode protections for transgender and queer youth or to restrict discussion of LGBTQ+ topics in public schools, Coro Allegro invites you to join us in raising our voices in support for LGBTQ+ youth and their families, through a powerful premiere and an advocacy project based on open letters.
On Sunday, May 22, 2022, Coro Allegro will present the world premiere of HERE I AM: I AM HERE by award-winning composer Andrea Clearfield. This newly commissioned work is based on two moving open letters – one to a transgender child and the other to a survivor of conversion therapy – by leading LGBTQ+ youth advocates Mimi Lemay and Sam Brinton.
Meet the composer, advocates, conductor, and commissioners, including Robin Godfrey, Executive Director of GALA Choruses. Hear the moving true stories behind the world premiere.
Then learn how to submit your own open letter in support of queer youth and their families through the Letters Project.
Visit coroallegro.org for more information.
The event is free but donations to Coro Allegro and the Letters Project are welcome.
