Description

Pranayama (a science beyond the breath)

In the Yoga Sutras, the practices of pranayama and asana are considered to be the highest form of purification and self discipline for the mind and the body.

Just as a goldsmith removes the impurities of gold by heating it in the hot furnace, by strongly blowing the blow-pipe, so also the practice of pranayama removes the impurities of the body by actively using the lungs.

At the Physical level, these practices help in alleviating High Blood pressure, Asthma, Arthritis, Rheumatism, Bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, Cholesterol, Fat, Headaches, Sinusitis, and various other ailments caused due to shallow breathing.

At the Spiritual level, these practices are said to be the direct link to the Paramatma the Supreme Soul.

Pranayama is a very important step in Ashtanga yoga where one starts looking inwards into ones own self and prepares the pathway to meditation

Antar Mouna (inner Silence)

When the mind is silent and peaceful it becomes very powerful. It can become a receptor of bliss and wisdom enabling life to become a spontaneous flow and expression of joy and harmony. However…this inner silence cannot arise while there is a continual stream of disturbing thoughts and emotions. All this inner noise of thoughts and emotions has to be removed before one can truly experience the soundless sound of inner silence. —Swami Satyananda Saraswati

Meditations from the Tantras are practises to achieve this blissfully elevated state of mind. Experiencing them, is the only way to know them. Those who are fortunate enough to come across Satyananda yoga can encounter and learn these meditation practices. Initially, taught very systematically and technically step by step, and as one practices, the doors to a very different realm of experience and feeling open.

Antar Mouna means inner silence, it is a technique of attaining pratyahara (withdrawal of the mind from the sense objects), the fifth stage of raja yoga, and in its fullest form can lead to dharana and dhyana. Antar mouna is also a fundamental part of the Buddhist practice known as Vipassana, used in a modified way.

When the mind is silent and peaceful it becomes very powerful, it becomes the receptor of bliss and wisdom. Life becomes a spontaneous flow and expression of joy.

All this arises naturally when the mind is in a state of inner silence…. however this inner silence can never arise when there is a continual stream of disturbing thoughts and turbulent emotions. All the inner noise of thoughts and emotions have to be removed before one can experience the soundless sound of inner silence.

Antar mouna is a technique that leads to inner tranquillity and silence.

Antar mouna is a complete training system for the awareness process, it teaches one how to know the processes of the mind and ways in which one can bring them under control.
