Event description

Description

In the past 100 years, Powell Butte has undergone tremendous changes. Once grazing land for dairy cattle, to a site for vast underground municipal drinking water storage, to the largest park in Portland east of the Willamette River. As the vegetation has changed, so has the habitat for birds, especially prairie-nesting birds.

This spring, Johnson Creek Watershed Council Community Science volunteers began recording birds on five transsects over 11 weeks. Dr. Tom Virzi, Executive Director of Conservation InSight, designed this long-term monitoring research project. Join us as Dr. Virzi discusses the findings from year #1 of this long-term study.

Local brewery, Coalition Brewing, will be pouring their signature beverages at this event. Join us for this free event in the community meeting room at All Saints Episcopal Church (same building as the JCWC office) on 4033 SE Woodstock Blvd, Portland.

Thank you Portland Parks & Recreation for co-managing this event, and to East Multnomah SWCD and Portland Bureau of Environmental Services for funding Johnson Creek Watershed Council's Community Science program!

Join us! All are welcome.
